Truce by Risha Chaurasia | Book Review

A fresh and energetic book from a teen author: Risha. According to dictionary, the word ‘Truce’ means putting peace between two or more hearts for better output. Yeah! The meaning of the title is apt and in accordance with the internal story of the novel. It is a story of 5 teenagers who hail from different backgrounds but feel the need of true friends in their lives. When they all come together and become friends, their hearts truce well. They help each other with full gusto and credibility. The novel is based on teenager phase of life. The author very well portrayed that if something goes wrong in teenage, well then it can affect the whole life. Thus, making good and positive and do-able friends at this tender age matters.

The novel initially captures the lives of Tiya, who is a simple girl with absolute love for music…but her best friend robs her aspirations by conspiring at her back. She was devastated and it took her much time to recover and get into the music once again. It could all happen because she met, later, good and same-minded friends such as Edi, Cayra, Ron, and Val, and Udit.

Later on, we get familiar with fashion brand girl Cayra. She is rich but tight on her deadlines and from within quite lonely. Her life portrays what it is like to be a poster-girl image. Next, we have Ron and Udit – aiming to be soccer stars – but fate turns them away. How…read the book.

The story of Udit is more tragic than I had expected. It should have been not so tragic but the author tried to show that teenage life is not all about college or school fun and mirth. There are setbacks as well. Edi’s characterization is totally different and how does he fit among them is a big startling point for me. Anyway, I liked all the characters…some were trying to be big, while some tried to be normal with big aspirations.

There are many climax steering subplots in the novel such as double-standards of one of the characters from their group, and there Cayra faces huge business and personal issues due to some cyber crime. Ron is a big-hearted character who tries to balance everyone despite getting setbacks in love. From time to time, all faces challenges and turn by turn all help one another to keep their friendship intact and smooth going. The novel also covers topics like humanity, help, compassion – which is quite necessary in today’s youth otherwise it is missing due to engagement in social media and electronic devices.

All in all, the novel is fast to read and one will be able to relate with his ambience or society or more. Risha’s writing style is good, as she knows where to put dialogues and how to pull thriller scenes. She is a budding writer. I hope she gets good mentoring from the industry experts.
